Bobblehead Nation 2018 Update

It's been about a month and a half since I published my annual post detailing the bobbleheads available as in-game giveaways around the NBA. Since that time, a few more teams have revealed their promotional schedules so we now know (1) where there are some additional bobbleheads for the taking and (2) which franchises are passing this year. Time for an update!

First the bad news. If you are a Timberwolves or 76ers fan, looks like you are out of luck in the bobblehead department this year, although the Sixers did produce a Joel Embiid bobblehead to hand out at their G-League team's game in Philly on November 20. Yes, I realize that was last month but I did make it clear in my post two months ago that this one was on the slate. With no bobbleheads on the schedule, the most exciting item on Philadelphia's promotional schedule is the free mittens on December 12. I'd definitely be there early for that one.

There's also some bobblehead uncertainty out there for me right now. The Atlanta Hawks have a graphic of a throwback Harry the Hawk bobblehead on their website (and shown below) but it appears nowhere on their schedule that I can see, although it does appear to be tied to the purchase of tickets like the Dominique Wilkins bobblehead that they made available last month. And in a surpise, the Dallas Mavericks have not released a promo schedule on their website; Dallas has been a great source for bobbleheads over the last couple of years with at least 10 in each of the last two seasons. Doesn't mean they are sitting this season out, just that I can't find it.

But enough about who's not giving away bobbleheads, let's get to the supplement to my original post.

January
12 Gus T. Bull & Benny The Bull Bobblehead (Windy City Bulls)
How awesome is this double mascot bobblehead? Very awesome is the only reasonable answer. The Bulls' G-League franchise is taking the safe route here by not issuing a player bobblehead (who knows who's going to be around in January on a  G-League team) but I don't care. This thing is fantastic. I assume Gus is a younger version of Benny? There's a striking unibrow resemblance but what color is Gus exactly? Not sure about the ochre colored hair any more than I'm sure about how Benny came to have red hair.

25 Julius Randle (New Orleans Pelicans)
2018 was a big year for the New Orleans Pelicans. They not only made it to the playoffs for the second time since they drafted Anthony Davis number one overall out of Kentucky but they also made it out of the first round. But late in the season, DeMarcus Cousins tore his achilles tendon and both he and Rajon Rondo left in the offseason. Julius Randle was probably the team's best shot at re-loading in the offseason since the Lakers seemed to be focused on other folks filling their roster this summer. The Pels reward Randle for his commitment here by getting him his own bobblehead in January.

February
12 Nikola Mirotic (New Orleans Pelicans)
Apparently the Pelicans are into handing out bobbleheads of players who might not be in New Orleans next year. Julius Randle has a player option for next year and Nikola Mitotic is an unrestricted free agent. Maybe the team hopes that making a bobblehead of each will help them to stay in the Crescent City. On the other hand, their tens of millions of dollars of cap space might do the same thing. The only thing I'm curious about with the Mitotic bobble is: beard or no beard?

21 Black Panther (Brooklyn Nets)
Yes, the Nets, after their disastrous first attempt at a mascot with the BrooklyKnight are getting back into the superhero game. This one, though, seems way safer than the mascot they invented. Who isn't going to show up in Brooklyn for a free Marvel Black Panther bobblehead?

The Nets, by the way, are not the first professional sports team located in Brooklyn to give away a Black Panther bobblehead. The minor league baseball Brooklyn Cyclones did it this summer. The picture above is the Cyclones' version, not the Nets' version.

27 Caris LeVert (Brooklyn Nets)
Last year was not a good year to be a Nets player who was also on the bobblehead schedule. Allen Crabbe was just fine but D'Angelo Russell missed almost half the season with knee issues and Jeremy Lin missed the entire season (well, minus 25 minutes...) with a ruptured patella tendon. How's this season going for the Nets' bobblehead players? Well, LeVert, after a strong early season showing, had a horrendous ankle injury in November. It looked way worse than it might actually be but suffice it to say, I'd be worried if the Nets had my bobblehead on their giveaway schedule.

If you are a Wizards fan looking to collect an opponent's bobblehead when you are on a roadie, February 27th's opponent is the Wizards.

I love the Harry the Hawk throwback bobble. It's just not entirely clear how to get one.
March
11 Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (Brooklyn Nets)
How nervous should Rondae Hollis-Jefferson be about making it through this year fully healthy with the Nets? Depends on if you believe in the Nets bobblehead curse or not. Either way, assuming he's still on the team, it looks like March 11 will get you your third of three Nets bobbleheads for the year.

April
5 TBD (Washington Wizards)
Finally my beloved Washington Wizards announced the date for their (one) bobblehead giveaway of the year but just like some previous years, they are refusing to disclose who that might be. My early money was on Dwight Howard but with his mysterious back/butt injury requiring early season surgery, I'm not sure any more. Maybe ownership knew there was disaster coming and couldn't commit to keeping anyone on the roster this late in the season. Nah...that can't be it, right?

That's all I'm going to say about bobbleheads this season until the mystery Wizards bobble gets handed out on April 5. Unless something major happens in the meantime, that is.

One final note on a past bobblehead and a reason why I used the cover photo above. The Kevin Love bobblehead game in Cleveland is passed, as might be Kevin Love's time in Cleveland (we'll have to see about that one). As it turns out, the Cavs gave away two versions of the bobblehead that night: one wearing the Cavs' (awful) wine-colored jersey and one wearing what looks like a Goodyear company jersey (what else could it be?). Apparently they only made 100 of the Goodyear version and handed them out randomly. Head to eBay, Cavs fans.

Bobblehead Nation 2017

Hey, NBA fans, are you ready for some bobbleheads? Yeah...me too. One of the most exciting parts for me about a new NBA season is finding out what bobbleheads are available from my local team at the arena. They continue to be THE premiere giveaway at the stadium doors. I'd travel around the country picking each one of these up if (a) I could afford it, (b) it was physically possible to be in two places at one time some nights and (c) I didn't have a job that I kinda need to do everything else I need do in life like attending Wizards games and blogging about bobblehead giveaways.

So here it is folks, my fourth annual summary of all bobbleheads available around the NBA (that I'm aware of) if you just show up at the right time in the right place. And yes, just like the last three years some of these have already passed and there will be some that I've missed. Blame it on your favorite team either not posting their promotional schedules on line or not posting them early enough. There's a full list of teams that are missing schedules at the bottom of this post.

Once again, there's some awfully good stuff out there and there are some teams with multiple bobbles available to their fans. Let's get right to it, starting with the kings of the bobblehead giveaways, the Golden State Warriors.

September
30 Draymond Green (Golden State Warriors)
For the fourth year in a row (and possibly further back than that), the Golden State Warriors are the first team to issue a bobblehead during the NBA season. Check that. For the fourth year in a row the Warriors are the first (and only) team to issue a bobblehead during the NBA PRE-season. This year's haul starts with the Draymond Green Defensive Player of the Year bobblehead in the Dubs' first preseason game. Dray is appropriately sculpted with his mouth wide open but somewhat puzzlingly without the DPOY trophy that this bobblehead is supposed to celebrate (he's got two championship trophies instead).

October
13 Kevin Durant (Golden State Warriors)
Know why the Warriors are limiting their bobblehead giveaways to two preseason games? I'm guessing it's because that's all they got this year. Draymond Green in September is followed by Finals MVP Kevin Durant two weeks later. And yes, KD comes with both a championship trophy and the Finals MVP trophy as well as a yeah-I-jumped-ship-to-the-best-team-in-the-NBA-but-got-what-I-wanted-in-the-end cheesy smile on his face. Congrats I guess.

23 Eric Gordon (Houston Rockets)
When  he entered the league after being drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers, Eric Gordon was an untouchable piece in what was planned as a Clippers rise to glory (yes, we are still waiting for that to truly happen). But when Chris Paul became available, the Clips happily shipped Gordon off to the Hornets, who re-signed him after his rookie deal was done. He promptly left down and signed with Houston where he (a) won the Sixth Man of the Year last season and (2) was rewarded with his own bobblehead this year. Oh, he's also playing with Paul this year too. But more on that later.

27 Alvin Attles (Golden State Warriors)
One of the things I love about writing this post every year is researching some of the great players who I'm not that familiar with and extolling their virtues for a paragraph or two. Of course, the NBA teams have to cooperate and hand me a bobblehead of a past legend. The Warriors have done that this year by giving away a bobblehead Al Attles in late October.

Attles spent 23 years with the Warriors organization. He spent 11 seasons as a player with the Philadelphia Warriors and San Francisco Warriors, including the last season and a half as player-coach (back when they did that sort of thing; can you imagine that today??). When he was done playing, he spent an additional 12 seasons as head coach, leading the Warriors to their first NBA Championship in 1975. His number 16 was retired by the Warriors. According to his Wikipedia page, he still attends every Warriors game.

November
10 Connie Hawkins (Phoenix Suns)
The Suns began play in Phoenix in 1968, which means the 2017-2018 NBA season is their 50th in the league. So the Suns are having a party, bobblehead style. They are rolling out five separate bobbleheads throughout the season representing their five decades of existence. Connie Hawkins is first, representing the two sixties seasons and the 1970s. The Hawk had one of the more storied journeys as a player. He was (falsely) implicated in a point shaving scandal when in college at Iowa, after which he was subsequently banned from any further collegiate participation and the NBA followed suit.

From college, he played one year in the American Basketball League (MVP by the way) before spending three years with the Harlem Globetrotters and then landing a gig in the American Basketball Association with the Pittsburgh Pipers, whom he led to the 1968 ABA title (MVP and playoff MVP by the way). He finally got his shot at the NBA in 1969 with the Suns but was way past his prime at that point. Nonetheless, his 42 hangs from the rafters in Phoenix and his name's in the books at the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield.

The Suns' choice of bobbleheads for each decade seems to be open to fan vote. I guess Hawkins won the popularity contest the Suns ran this summer for the 1960s and 70s. I'd be way more proud to have his bobblehead on my shelf at home than Jerry Colangelo. Just saying.

It would have been great to have had Connie Hawkins around for this giveaway. Unfortunately, he passed away earlier this month. RIP, Hawk.

13 Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors)
How many freaking Steph Curry bobbleheads do the Dubs think they need to give away? In the prior three years they've given away four (yes, they gave away two in one season). And now they need to give away another one? I guess he is pretty good and if I were a Warriors fan, I wouldn't sneeze at a fifth Curry bobble in four years. Heck, that's more bobbles than the Wizards give away in a four year period for all our players combined!!!

25 Dwight Howard (Charlotte Hornets)
The Hornets are going all in on bobbleheads this year and rolling out four of these things, starting with Dwight Howard (still can't get my head wrapped around Howard in Charlotte) the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The photo of Dwight's head on the Hornets' website has a huge smile on his face. And why not? By the time Thanksgiving has rolled around he probably hasn't had enough time to get into some truly passive aggressive behavior with his teammates by that point.

27 Chris Paul (Houston Rockets) / David West (Golden State Warriors)
Chris Paul didn't want to play in New Orleans anymore so he forced his way to a trade to the Clippers, where he spent six pretty good but ultimately Conference Finals-less years. So now he's forced his way to a trade to the Rockets, where he'll be immortalized in bobblehead form, at least for this year, until he's an unrestricted free agent again. Of course, Paul could ultimately choose to re-sign with Houston since he's obviously ring chasing and the Rockets appear to have about as good a chance as anyone of knocking off the Warriors, which means they really have a pretty slim chance.

Speaking of guys who didn't want to play in New Orleans ring chasing...November 27 is also David West bobblehead day in Oakland. West left the Hornets (now re-named the Pelicans of course) the exact same year that Paul did but as a free agent headed for the Indiana Pacers, where he worked his way to a number one seed with the Pacers before crashing in the playoffs when they ran into the Miami Heat. Convinced it wasn't going to happen in the heartland, West took a huge pay cut to spend a title-less year in San Antonio before landing in Golden State where he finally got a ring. Now he has a bobblehead too. Congrats! I'm sure Chris Paul is jealous.

December
4 Dirk Nowitzki #1 (Dallas Mavericks)
Last year the Dallas Mavericks handed out 12 bobbleheads at the doors of the American Airlines Center. Pretty much if you made the team, you got a bobblehead of yourself. I've never seen such a commitment to a team's fans. Bobblehead-wise, that is. This year, the Mavs are handing out an additional 10!!! And they are all of Dirk Nowitzki. That's right, Dallas hoops fans can pick up 10 different Nowitzki bobbles to celebrate Dirk's 20th season with the team.

I assume five of the bobbles are going to resemble the five in the top banner of this post: MVP Dirk, home whites young Dirk, roadie current Dirk, green alternate jersey Dirk and NBA Champion Dirk. I think it's amazing the Mavs have shown this much commitment to Dirk and vice versa over the years while also acknowledging that the team is likely to go nowhere really until he hangs up his sneakers and moves on, likely with the very same organization. For me personally, I'm just jealous of Mavs fans here. 22 bobbleheads in the last two seasons. That's like 10 or 12 Wizards seasons and that's with the G Wiz Kids Club bobbleheads that we effectively have to pay for.

8 DeMarcus Cousins (New Orleans Pelicans)
Two years ago the Sacramento Kings handed out a DeMarcus Cousins bobblehead, the only then-current player in a six pack of bobbleheads handed out by the team to celebrate the accomplishments of their past heroes and I guess anoint the future. Until last year, when they traded him away to the Pels. Now New Orleans is giving out a DMC bobble. He'll be around in December for sure but we'll see about the end of the year.

9 Tom Chambers (Phoenix Suns) / Frank Kaminsky (Charlotte Hornets)
Quick: name the player with the highest point total who will likely never be in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. If you said Tom Chambers, you'd be correct. Chambers ranks 40th all time on the NBA's all time scoring list. Of the 39 ahead of him, 29 are in the Hall already. The other 10? Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, LeBron James, Tim Duncan, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, Vince Carter, Ray Allen, Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade.

Chambers played just five of his 16 NBA seasons in Phoenix but three of his four All-Star appearances and both of his All-NBA team nods were made wearing a Suns jersey. Chambers' number 24 was also retired by the Suns. Now he gets a bobblehead, winning the fan vote for the 1980s.

And then there's Charlotte's Frank Kaminsky, apparently dressed in a Star Wars stormtrooper costume. All I have to say here is:

Princess Leia: "Aren't you a little TALL for a stormtrooper?"
Kaminsky: "Huh? Oh the uniform. I'm Frank Kaminsky. I'm here to rescue you."
Princess Leia: "You're who? Frank Kaminsky? Nobody named Frank Kaminsky is rescuing me!"

Sorry, Frank.

11 James Harden Jedi (Houston Rockets) / Milos Teosodic  Jedi Knight (Los Angeles Clippers)
So take a wild guess when the next Star Wars movie is being released? If you guessed December 11 you'd be almost right. It's December 17. I guess that's why bobblehead Frank Kaminsky is being dressed up a bit early as a stormtrooper this month and James Harden and Milos Teosodic (yes, I know he's a rookie but he appears to be the guy the Clips are pinning their post-Chris Paul era on at point guard) are dressed up as jedi for their December 11 bobblehead giveaways. If you can manage to be in Charlotte on December 9 and then Houston and L.A. two days later, you can add these three bobbles to your Brook Lopez Nets jedi and Chewbacca giveaways from the previous two years. Can't make it to all three spots plus Brooklyn the last two years? Well, there's always eBay. Or a time machine.

20 Dirk Nowitzki #2 (Dallas Mavericks) / Zaza Pachulia (Golden State Warriors)
The second of ten. Which Dirk Nowitzki bobblehead is this? No idea and hey, who cares? It's a bobblehead and it's free!!

Yes, there's also a Zaza Pachulia bobblehead this year. This is freaking awesome. I'd love it if I were a Warriors fan. I just don't have a whole lot more to say on this one. Lock in, Dub Nation!

27 Kemba Walker (Charlotte Hornets)
Can you believe Kemba Walker made it to the All-Star Game last year? Me either, despite the good year. I think the coaches were swayed by the unexpectedly strong start for the Hornets. I guess Kemba's hard work and performance paid off. This season he becomes the third Charlotte Hornet to be honored in bobblehead form.

January
5 Dirk Nowitzki #3 (Dallas Mavericks)
First bobblehead of the new year is...Dirk Nowitzki. And why not, I mean he has the best odds of anyone this year, right?

8 DeAndre Jordan (Los Angeles Clippers) / Klay Thompson (Golden State Warriors)
The Clippers this year are handing out four bobbleheads. Apparently three of the four are pretty standard bobbleheads as evidenced by the silhouettes above, although I find that difficult to believe unless Milos Teosodic's jedi knight bobblehead comes sans light saber (seems unlikely). The one with a different silhouette? DeAndre Jordan's. Apparently he's posterizing some opponent. I'm hoping they don't make the opponent an actual player and if they do, I hope it's not a Wizard.

The same day DJ gets a bobble for the second straight year in L.A., the Warriors hand out bobblehead number six on the year with a miniature version of Klay Thompson, presumably with a couple of Larry O'Brien trophies at his feet like Draymond Green has. Warriors fans can place this bobblehead proudly next to their 2016 and 2015 Klay bobbles.

12 TBD (Phoenix Suns)
January 12 in Phoenix is a celebration of the 1990s and once again, the choice of bobblehead this night was determined by fan vote. I'm thinking it's got to be Charles Barkley here, right? I know, Cedric Ceballos would be an awesome choice but it's gotta be Chuck I'm thinking. Suns fans will find out soon I hope.

13 Dwyane Wade Zach LaVine (Chicago Bulls)
When the Bulls first released their promotional schedule in September, it featured two bobbleheads: Benny the Bull (I'd be soooo looking forward to that one if I were a Bulls fan) and Dwyane Wade. By the end of September, Wade was gone, agreeing to part with a reported $8 million of his guaranteed money so he wouldn't have to play for the totally-deconstructed-no-chance-at-winning-much-at-all Bulls. So much for that giveaway.

In Wade's place...Zach LaVine, the Youtube sensation and 2015 Slam Dunk Contest winner who the Bulls got in return (plus others) for Jimmy Butler this past summer. Two years ago, Zach's fans got a LaVine bobblehead in Minnesota. Now they got one in Chicago. Thank Dwyane Wade for that one, folks.

22 Clint Capela (Houston Rockets) / Danilo Gallinari (Los Angeles Clippers) / Dirk Nowitzki #4 (Dallas Mavericks)
Clint Capela is likely the guy who convinced the Rockets with his play that the team would be OK passing on any further involvement with Dwight Howard and just stick with the then second year player as their big man in the middle. Other players on the Rockets like James Harden likely helped the club with some advice here. Houston fans get a fan favorite here on January 22.

Over in Los Angeles, the Clippers are handing out bobblehead #4 on the year. It's been a bit rough for this team this offseason. They saw Paul Pierce retire, removed Doc Rivers from the General Manager position, let J.J. Redick and Jamal Crawford sign with other teams and then had Chris Paul engineer his own trade out of town. So to make up for all that, they went out and got Denver's Danilo Gallinari. Yeah. So of course they had to make a bobblehead for him, right? Makes sense to me.

Yes, it's another Dirk Nowitzki bobblehead, rounding out the busiest bobble day in the NBA this year.

29 Dirk Nowitzki #5 (Dallas Mavericks)
Well, it's been a week since the Mavs have handed out a Dirk Nowitzki bobblehead so why not. Five down, five to go.

February
25 Bango (Milwaukee Bucks)
I know the February 25 giveaway in Milwaukee is a toothbrush holder but I also believe this is a bobblehead. While it doesn't exactly say that on the Bucks' website (the bobblehead part; they clearly say toothbrush holder), the cartoonish picture of the giveaway looks on their promo schedule an awful lot like a bobblehead (see above). The Bucks also had a Miles Plumlee toothbrush holder/bobblehead handout on their slate last year which they had to abort when they traded Plumlee away. If you are a collector of mascot bobbleheads (there has to be someone who is) you have to be pumped about the variety this year (see March below). The only downside with this one is you have to be a kid 14 and under to get one of these beauties. If you are traveling to the game, make sure you bring a kid then wrestle this one from their weak hands. Kidding. Don't do that. Please.

26 Dirk Nowitzki #6 (Dallas Mavericks)
February is not only the shortest month of the year, it's also the month with the All-Star break so there's really only like three weeks of hoops in the month. This year, of course, there's time for another Dirk Nowitzki bobblehead though. Not sure why the Mavs skipped October and November but I'm sure Mavs fans are glad to have this one in February.

March
1 TBD (Cleveland Cavaliers)
One man's trash is another man's treasure?

When I first saw the Cavaliers' promotional schedule released and saw two bobbleheads and both were TBDs I thought you gotta be kidding me. I mean these two have to be offseason acquisitions Isaiah Thomas and Jae Crowder, right? Why bother even dragging it out or casting uncertainty on what has to be a certain thing.

And then Dwyane Wade got bought out by Chicago and joined the Cavs. So now it has to be Wade and Thomas in these two spots, right? Right? Maybe?

2 TBD (Phoenix Suns)
The celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Phoenix Suns continues on March 2 with a bobblehead celebrating the aughts. Just like I did above I'm going to have to guess here because the Suns haven't announced the winner of the fan vote on this one. I'm spitballing here but I'm thinking Steve Nash. He did, after all, win two MVP trophies in his time in Phoenix. Not that I'm a great predictor of elections but I'm all in on Nash here.

4 Dirk Nowitzki #7 (Dallas Mavericks)
Getting the Dirk bobblehead withdrawal shakes, Mavericks fans? Don't worry, here's number seven. At this point, I'm thinking folks in Dallas are losing interest as the team falls behind the pack. The good news? Three more Nowitzki bobbleheads after this one.

6 Blake Griffin (Los Angeles Clippers)
The Clippers wrap up their four pack of bobbleheads with (almost) last man standing Blake Griffin. I'm still waiting for someone to make a Blake Griffin bobblehead with built in flopping feature, although I'm guessing that won't be the Clippers this year. Enjoy, Clips fans. You get three more bobbles than I do as a Wizards fan this year.

10 Dirk Nowitzki #8 (Dallas Mavericks)
Two Dirk Nowizki bobbleheads in a single week? Hey it was bound to happen sometime. I mean there are only 41 home games, after all.

19 TBD (Cleveland Cavaliers)
When I first saw the Cavaliers' promotional schedule released and saw two bobbleheads and both were TBDs I thought you gotta be kidding me. Oh wait...I already wrote this one. See March 1.

21 Benny the Bull (Chicago Bulls)
If December is Stars Wars bobblehead month in the NBA, March is mascot bobblehead month. And the two that are being given away this month are good ones. Benny placed fourth in my most recent mascot rank post. I'd be super psyched if I were a Bulls fan on March 21, so much so that I'd be able to look over the fact that one of the only reasons there's even a Benny bobble is that nobody on the team is good enough to get one. This night should provide a boost for beleaguered Bulls fans. By this point in the season, they'll likely need some encouragement and/or a reason to show up to a home game.

22 Dirk Nowitzki #9 (Dallas Mavericks)
The Mavs should have an over/under bet of how many fans have all nine Dirk Nowitzki bobbleheads by this point in the year. Not sure how they'd quite measure that. You can bet I'd be on the list if I was a Mavs fan. Forgot to mention this earlier but there are only 5,000 per game. Get there early. 10 times.

26 Hugo the Hornet (Charlotte Hornets)
If Bulls fans should be excited about seeing Benny the Bull for free at the doors of United Center, Hornets fans should be equally excited, if not more so, to see a smiling Hornets staffer handing them a Hugo bobblehead five days after Benny gets handed out in Chicago. The only downside here for Charlotte fans (if you really say any day when you get a free bobblehead has downside) is that there was a Hugo bobble handed out just three seasons ago. Is Charlotte really that lacking in players who get bobbleheads? Don't think too hard on that one.

30 Dirk Nowitzki #10 (Dallas Mavericks)
Finally, I can stop writing about Dirk Nowitzki bobbleheads. Congratulations to whomever has all 10. I'm totally jealous. To this point in the season, by the way, the Wizards have handed out zero bobbleheads. It's appropriate then that...

31 Otto Porter (Washington Wizards)
Hey! It's a Wizards bobblehead. Finally!!!

Not wholly surprised by this one (since Otto signed his max deal this past summer). After all the Wizards have never given away (important words there) a bobblehead of the third max deal player on the current roster (joining John Wall and Bradley Beal). As a Wizards fan who already owns an Otto Porter bobblehead (obtained through the G Wiz Kids Club two seasons ago), I was just hoping for someone different. I'll take it and like it for sure. There's only one a year at most in D.C. No complaining any more for this post here.

April
6 TBD (Phoenix Suns)
The Suns wrap up their bobblehead-fest on April 6 with a player from the current team. I don't believe the voting for this one has even started but I can't imagine it's anyone other than Devin Booker. I'd vote for Brandon Knight if I were a Suns fan. Heck, I might even vote for him even though I'm not a Suns fan. By this time in the season, a plastic likeness of Booker with a massive head is likely the only thing Suns fans will have to look forward to.

11 Rajon Rondo (New Orleans Pelicans)
Six or seven years ago, Rondo looked like a future hall of famer. NBA Champion, four-time All-Star, an All-NBA Third Team nod. The last three years? Traded by the Celtics to the Mavericks. Signed by Sacramento. Signed by Chicago. Now he's in New Orleans. But he's good enough to get a bobblehead, something he probably never got in Boston. Rondo's middle name is Pierre by the way. Coincidence? Fate?

So that's it for now. 16 of the 30 NBA teams have released their promotional schedules to this point. I realize that's only just a bit more than half but I wanted to get this out before any regular season bobbleheads are given away. Made it by 3 days! Who knows, maybe there's room for an update later on this year. If nothing else, there are four TBDs in this post in Cleveland and Phoenix and the Rockets promotional schedule either is only released through January or they are giving no loot away after that point.

For the rest of the teams not represented above, no bobbleheads this year in Philadelphia, Memphis, Portland or Los Angeles. Well, the Lakers portion of Los Angeles anyway. The Grizzlies do have a Marc Gasol Billion Dollar Strut Figure they'll be handing out on January 26. Not sure what that is but if I was a Grizz fan I'd make sure I was one of the first 5,000 in the door that night.

The 14 teams missing so far? Boston, Brooklyn New York, Toronto, Detroit, Indiana, Atlanta, Miami, Orlando, San Antonio, Denver, Minnesota, Oklahoma City and Sacramento. If any of those clubs have promotional schedules to release this year, I'll have to pick it up in an update. In the meantime, bobblehead collectors, go forth and collect. I'll get mine on March 31.

November 13, 2016

Bobblehead Nation 2016

It's time for my third annual NBA bobblehead roundup which I'm starting to think might be better off called the Wizards Bobblehead Collector's Lament (but we can come back to that bitterness...). This project is a labor of love each year (and I DO love bobbleheads) involving a whole lot of searching on each team's home page to find the latest and greatest promotional or giveaway schedules. Over half of the teams in the NBA have now published their list of free loot available to fans at the door, so it's time to push this thing out there.

Yes, I get that it's the second week of November and at this point some of the bobbleheads listed in this post have already been handed out. Blame the teams who are slow to post their schedules, not me. There's always eBay after all. Hopefully this can serve as a resource to NBA bobblehead collectors nationwide (or worldwide for that matter). After all, there's nothing better than holding a brand new questionable quality bobblehead handed to you for free upon entrance to an NBA arena.

There's some awfully good stuff this year, especially if you live in or around Dallas or Indianapolis. Just like the last couple of years, I'm sure there are more out there which are not yet available for amateur internet searchers like me. If I missed anything let me know and I'll correct or add a second post. For those of you in Washington, you have to wait until March for our one bobblehead giveaway. In the meantime bobblehead collectors nation-wide, let's get to the 2016-2017 list.

October
4 Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors)
6 San Jose Sharks Edition Klay Thompson (Golden State Warriors)
21 Draymond Green (Golden State Warriors)
As far as I am aware (and, look I'm not necessarily that aware here), the Golden State Warriors are the only NBA team recently to give away bobbleheads in the preseason. Two years ago, it was two; last year they upped it to three; and this year they match last year's output with their current big three of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.

First let me say what an incredible idea this is to get folks in the door before the real NBA action starts. I attended two of the Wizards three preseason games (which should totally be free for season ticket holders by the way) and there was barely anyone there. Schedule a Tomas Satoransky or John Wall in a Capitals jersey bobblehead and people would be lining up at the door.

Steph Curry's preseason bobblehead comes with him holding two MVP trophies from the past two seasons. You can add Klay Thompson in a San Jose Sharks jersey to match the one of Steph handed out last year. Draymond Green's is flexing, not trying to kick LeBron James or sitting in civvies in a suite at the Oakland Alameda Coliseum during game five of the Finals (which his team lost without him).

26 Bobby "Slick" Leonard (Indiana Pacers)
The Indiana Pacers are celebrating their 50th season this year with seven (!!!!) bobbleheads which I think is absolutely fantastic. The franchise has existed for parts of six decades from the 1960s to the 2010s and they are devoting one night this season to each decade or partial decade that they have been playing basketball. But before they get to giving out player bobblehead for the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, aughts and 10s, they kicked things off opening night with a Bobby "Slick" Leonard bobblehead. Slick is the Pacers' most legendary coach, leading the team to three ABA titles in 1970, 1972 and 1973 before guiding the franchise into the NBA after the 1976 merger. I love that he comes with a red, white and blue ABA basketball. I still long for a Randy Wittman Wizards bobblehead. Just saying...I'll let it go eventually, I promise.

November
2 Calavera (Phoenix Suns)
Never heard of this NBA player with a single name? Me either. That's because he's not an NBA player but a word for one of those cool Mexican skulls used in the Day of the Dead or Dia de Muertos celebration. The Suns got lucky with this game being scheduled on November 2 which is the actual Day of the Dead. This is the first of two team issued bobbleheads across the NBA that are not players, coaches or broadcasters affiliated with the teams that are handing them out. The other is on January 29 and I can't wait to see that one.

9 Jamal Crawford (Los Angeles Clippers)

Jamal Crawford's like the fine wine of the NBA. He was selected in the 2000 draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers who shipped him off to the Chicago Bulls before ever playing a minute. From there he bounced around a bit from New York to Golden State to Atlanta as a sometimes starter but mostly bench player with no All-Star appearances. Then in 2010 with the Hawks he won the NBA's Sixth Man award for the top bench player in the league. Since then, he's won it twice more in 2014 and 2016 both with the Los Angeles Clippers. The Sixers tried to steal Crawford away in the offseason. Clips fans will be glad on November 9 that they didn't.

12 Roger Brown (Indiana Pacers)

The Pacers' player bobblehead madness starts in earnest on November 12 with Roger Brown, who played with the team from 1967-1974, including all three ABA championship teams. Brown represents the 1960s for the Pacers during their anniversary season. I don't have a whole lot else to say about Brown other than he had his jersey retired by the Pacers and he's in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Maybe I need another trip to Springfield.

28 Kevin Durant (Golden State Warriors)

Still shaking my head about this one. Kevin Durant was the Dubs marquee signing in the offseason and he gets the team's first regular season bobblehead, signifying either he's the Warriors' fourth banana or something else or nothing at all. You don't get Durant in the preseason but you can pick him up at Oracle Arena on the Monday after Thanksgiving.

December
5 Harrison Barnes (Dallas Mavericks) / Elvin Hayes (Houston Rockets)
Raise your hand if you think Mark Cuban is the best owner in the NBA. My hand is up. If your's isn't just wait a paragraph.

After missing out on a few top tier free agents this offseason, the Mavericks settled for offering the Warriors' Harrison Barnes a dumptruck full of cash. It worked and Barnes became a Maverick. About a month and a half later with his new team, he gets a bobblehead. And he's not the last one. Barnes is the first of 12 (not a typo - 12!!!!) bobbleheads to be handed out by the Mavs this year. That's like one every three and a half home games. Basically if you were in the NBA last year and are playing for Dallas this year, you get a bobblehead. The only three guys on the roster who don't are their three rookies. Hands up if you think Mark Cuban is the best owner in the NBA now. Just ignore their current record when you think about that.

Elsewhere in Texas, the Houston Rockets have four bobbleheads on their slate of giveaways this season and they are all retired players from the team's past. They start with Elvin Hayes who won an NBA Championship and had his number retired right here in Washington. So why is he getting a bobblehead in Houston? Well, Hayes was selected by the Rockets (albeit when they were in San Diego and played for the team for about four years before being traded to the Bullets. After Abe Pollin had the big E lead the team to a title in '78, he sent him back to the Rockets to close out his career. But as much as Elvin may have contributed to Houston's pro team, he was perhaps more important as a college ball legend at the University of Houston, averaging 31 points and more than 17 rebounds per game while also breaking the color barrier on that school's basketball team (along with Don Chaney). Important stuff there, folks.

7 Brook Lopez (Brooklyn Nets)

For the second straight year, the Nets are giving away a Brook Lopez Star Wars bobblehead. What's up with that? Is Lopez a big Star Wars fan or did not enough people show up to any Nets game last year so they can afford to give the extras away this year? I guess we'll find out December 7. The picture above is Lopez with last year's bobble.

10 Mel Daniels and George McGinnis (Indiana Pacers)
The best thing about the Pacers' seven bobblehead giveaways? One is a double, which I assume means there are actually eight bobbleheads to be handed out in Indy this season. Both players are Pacers legends. Daniels won three titles with the team and McGinnis was around for the last two. In a decade when the Pacers were dominant (the 1970s), I wondered how they would accommodate both Daniels and McGinnis. Now I know.

18 Devin Harris (Dallas Mavericks)

Mavericks bobblehead night number two. Harris has to be the only bench player to get two bobbleheads of himself handed out over a three year period right? If you miss this one, Mavs fans, don't worry. There's another one in a couple of weeks.

20 Nate Thurmond (Golden State Warriors)

The Warriors become the third team this NBA season to roll out a retired player bobblehead. Nate was drafted by the Warriors (then the San Francisco Warriors) in 1963 and played for the team until 1974, the year before the franchise's first title. Thurmond's number 42 is retired by both the Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers (who he played less than two seasons for) and he entered the Hall of Fame in 2006. This one should be a little poignant for Warriors fans. Nate passed away in July of this year at the age of 74.

21 Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns)

The Phoenix Suns are handing out three bobbleheads this year. Two are not players; this one is. After a promising rookie season, I've seen second year man Devin Booker's name on a lot of preseason Most Improved Player lists so it seems right that the Suns would hand out bobbleheads of Booker.

January
2 DeAndre Jordan (Los Angeles Clippers)
DeAndre Jordan was one of 12 NBAers to head to Rio this past summer and grab himself an easy gold medal. The Clippers are celebrating that feat by making a bobblehead with Jordan presumably wearing his medal in his number 6 USA jersey.

5 Deron Wiliams (Dallas Mavericks)

Mavericks bobblehead night number three. After years of rumors and speculation, the Mavs finally got Deron Williams into a Dallas jersey in the 2015 offseason, a move that represented a homecoming of sorts for the three time NBA All-Star. The problem for the Mavs? Williams is not really that good anymore. Still, he's on the roster so this year he gets a bobblehead.

7 Jimmy Butler (Chicago Bulls) / Chuck Person (Indiana Pacers)

Did you miss out on Jimmy Butler bobblehead night last season in Chicago? If you did, don't worry because they are handing out a Butler bobble again this year. Butler's sort of the last man standing for the Bulls. Over the last two years, Chicago's handed out Derrick Rose, Pau Gasol and Joakim Noah (twice) bobbleheads. Those guys are all gone now and Jimmy's left in Chi-town. Don't worry, Bulls fans, there's a couple of other All-Stars that the team has added to the roster who are getting celebrated in bobblehead form.

The Pacers are celebrating the 1980s with a Chuck Person bobblehead and here I'm going to have to go both off script and into spoiler alert mode. I'm not sure I agree with this selection. When I look at the Pacers' all time leaders, I see Rik Smits second in games played, minutes and points and third in rebounds. Yet no Smits bobblehead. Smits played from 1988 to 2000 so the Pacers really had two credible options: make him the 1980s or 1990s bobblehead. The chose neither. I'm sure Chuck Person's a good guy and if I were a Pacers season ticket holder I'd take it. But I'd want Smits more.

9 Rajon Rondo (Chicago Bulls)

If you are a Bulls fan, I told you so. The Bulls made two marquee free agent signings this offseason: former Celtic / Maverick / King Rajon Rondo and Dwyane Wade, who after being shorted on salary so his friends could play with him for years finally got sick of that treatment in Miami and took his talents to the Windy City. They both get the bobblehead treatment this year in Chicago. If I were a Bulls fan, I'd be longing for a Taj Gibson bobble. No such luck this year. You are stuck with Butler (for the second year in a row), Rondo and Wade. At least you get three.

10 Andre Iguodala (Golden State Warriors) / Calvin Murphy (Houston Rockets)

Last year Warriors fans got an Iggy NBA Finals MVP bobblehead in the preseason. This year he's back in bobblehead form just after the new year in a virtual reality golf pose. Maybe I don't understand technology but I just don't get this one. However, there's a lot of things I don't get in this world, like how the Wizards ever made a Jarvis Hayes bobblehead. Sure enough, Jarvis is on my shelf at home. If I were a Dubs fan, I'd be at the game early on January 10 for a golfing Andre bobblehead.

In addition to Iggy in Oakland on January 10, Rockets fans in Houston get handed a Calvin Murphy bobblehead complete with San Diego Rockets apparel. Murphy spent his 13 year entire career with the Rockets, earning one All-Star appearance over that span of time and having his number retired after he hung up his sneakers. He still works for the Rockets organization today as a television broadcaster. At just 5'-9" tall, Murphy is the shortest player ever inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

13 Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks)

I'm not sure I'll ever get the spelling of Giannis' last name down. I have to look at the right way to spell it every time I write it. Fortunately, I don't have many occasions to write his name. For the second straight year, the Bucks hand out a Giannis bobblehead. Not arguing with the selection but can't teams dig a little deeper into their rosters more often? In Brooklyn, there's Brook Lopez two years in a row, in Chicago it's Jimmy Butler, now Giannis. I'm still showing up for this one if I'm a Bucks fan. After all, I have four different John Wall bobbleheads on my shelves at home here near DC.

15 Jeremy Lin (Brooklyn Nets)

The Nets tried and failed on a couple of restricted free agents this offseason after signing both Allen Crabbe and Tyler Johnson to offer sheets only to see the Trail Blazers and Heat respectively match their offers. As a result they ended up with Jeremy Lin as their top free agent signing, which I guess should probably clue you in on the Nets' prospects for success this year after finishing towards the bottom of the Eastern Conference last year. Nothing against Lin; I think he had a terrific year in Charlotte last year and wish the Wiz could have taken a look at him. But if you are a bad team and Lin's your best free agent signing, maybe your expectations are pretty low this year too. If I'm a Nets fan, I'm probably more excited about three bobblehead giveaways on the schedule more than I am about the team's hopes for the playoffs.

22 Salah Mejri (Dallas Mavericks)

Dallas Mavericks bobblehead night number four. I have to tell you, I couldn't pick Mejri out of a crowd 7'-1" Tunisian guys if you asked me to. However, he's in the right place at the right time for a bobblehead of himself. What the Mavs are doing this year is awesome. This would be like us Wizards fans getting handed a Jason Smith bobblehead. And yes, Wizards fans, I'd see that as a good thing.

25 J.J. Barea (Dallas Mavericks) / Matthew Dellavedova (Milwaukee Bucks)

Dallas Mavericks bobblehead night number five. Wait a second, didn't they just have one of these? Yep. Like three days ago. Two bobbles in four nights?!?!?! Are you kidding me? Barea is probably a more celebrated pickup for fans than Mejri because of his role in the team's 2011 championship.

The same night the Mavs hand out J.J., the Milwaukee Bucks hand out their big offseason acquisition Matthew Dellavedova in bobblehead form. Dellavedova definitely hit free agency at the right time. He's set for life with that Bucks contract. As scrappy as he is and as much as I hated Delly with the Cavs, I wish the Wiz had have picked him up this past offseason. I'd be out front early for this one in Milwaukee.

29 King Cake Baby (New Orleans Pelicans)

Of all the bobbleheads being handed out in the NBA this year, I have to say I'm looking forward to seeing this one more than any other (yes, even more than Kelly Oubre, Jr.). I can't imagine what this thing is going to look like. A King Cake is a part of New Orleans' Mardi Gras tradition and inside each cake is a little plastic baby which symbolizes Jesus. Whoever gets the baby in their slice is supposed to have good luck. I see this thing as a creepy pink naked baby with an oversized head (actually aren't all babies' heads oversized?) or a pink baby emerging Alien-like from a multicolored slice of cake. Can't wait for January 29.

February
1 Andrew Bogut (Dallas Mavericks)
Dallas Mavericks bobblehead night number six. Think January was a big month for Mavs fans on the bobblehead front with three? Think again because the Mavericks are handing out five in the shortest month of the year. They start with Andrew Bogut on the first of the month, whom they acquired in a salary dump from the Warriors in the offseason. If you are an Australia basketball bobblehead fan, you have to be thrilled at the possibility of Delly and Bogut in one season.

5 Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (Brooklyn Nets)

The Nets third new bobblehead this year (assuming the Brook Lopez Star Wars bobblehead isn't a liquidation of last year's leftover bobbleheads) gets handed out on February 5 and it's second year man Hollis-Jefferson after averaging 5.8 points per game as a rook.

9 Justin Anderson (Dallas Mavericks)

Dallas Mavericks bobblehead night number seven. At this point, I'm getting tired of writing about Mavericks bobbleheads. Anderson was  the Mavs' first round draft pick in 2015. He averaged 3.8 points per game in the regular season last year as a rookie. This year, he gets a bobblehead.

11 Quincy Acy (Dallas Mavericks) / Mario Elie (Houston Rockets) / Reggie Miller (Indiana Pacers)

Dallas Mavericks bobblehead night number eight. February 11 is one of two three bobblehead nights across the NBA and of course both those nights feature a Mavs bobble. The only thing I have to say about Acy is that he got ejected on Christmas Day 2014 for throwing a punch at John Wall. Acy's not a favorite of mine. Let's move on.

February 11 is Houston Rockets throwback bobblehead night number three, this one celebrating Mario Elie and his Kiss of Death shot against the Phoenix Suns en route to the Rockets' second NBA title in 1995. The shot came with 7.1 seconds remaining in the 1995 Western Conference Semifinals to put the Rockets up three. Right after the shot, Elie blew the Suns bench a kiss. Then he took the Rockets into the NBA Finals for a second straight title while Michael Jordan tried to play baseball down in Alabama.

The Pacers celebrate the 1990s with Reggie Miller. As a former Knicks fan, I am officially obliged to type I hate Reggie Miller. But there's no other choice here. Reggie's the greatest Pacer ever. I'm standing in line early for this one if I'm a Pacers fan.

13 Seth Curry (Dallas Mavericks)

Dallas Mavericks bobblehead night number nine. Two years ago, we saw two brothers in Markieff and Marcus Morris get bobbleheads in Phoenix. This year, the Curry brothers get one each in Golden State and Dallas. Congrats, Seth!

26 Miles Plumlee Bobblehead Toothbrush Holder (Milwaukee Bucks)

Every so often there's an NBA giveaway item that is so amazingly profound as an idea that it deserves some special attention. If there's one this year, it's the Miles Plumlee toothbrush holder which features Plumlee in bobblehead form standing next to your favorite toothbrush. And it's no surprise that it's a product of the awesome NBA marketing geniuses in Milwaukee. How could this not get you off to a good start every day to brush with a bobblehead? I'd consider flying to Milwaukee for game day just to get one of these things. Although if I wanted it that badly, I'm sure it's cheaper to find one on eBay. As for the meaning behind Plumlee being on this one? Well, who cares? It's a freaking bobblehead and toothbrush holder for crying out loud. I expect households all over Wisconsin will have these in place by the morning of February 27.

27 Wesley Matthews (Dallas Mavericks)

Dallas Mavericks bobblehead night number ten. Matthews and DeAndre Jordan were supposed to be the two players to take the Mavericks back into the NBA elite last year before Jordan reneged on his verbal commitment and bolted back to the Clippers. This year, Matthews joins Jordan on the bobblehead list for their respective teams.

March
3 Dwight Powell (Dallas Mavericks) / Al McCoy (Phoenix Suns) / Kelly Oubre, Jr. (Washington Wizards)
Dallas Mavericks bobblehead night number 11 (!!). Powell was filler in the Rajon Rondo to Dallas trade a couple of years ago. I honestly had to look up something to write about Powell and that's all I got. Just one more Mavs bobble to go and you might be able to guess who that is.

When the Suns first released their promo schedule this year, they had a WeArePHX Mystery Bobblehead on this date. I see now that they have changed this date to Al McCoy, who will be inducted into the Suns' Ring of Honor on March 3. Who's Al McCoy you ask (as did I)? Well, he's the radio broadcaster for the Suns and has been since 1972, having missed only a single game in the last 44 years. Well done and well deserved, I'm sure. That kind of dedication and loyalty is impressive.

Finally on March 3, Wizards fans get their annual lone bobblehead of the season when second year man Kelly Oubre, Jr. gets handed out in poorly painted resin form. This one should be cool: Kelly's hair is going to be more difficult to model and paint than the typical generic bobbleheads we sometimes see at the doors of Verizon Center and I'm dying to know if they are going to put him in short shorts. Guess we'll find out for sure on March 3.

8 Anthony Davis (New Orleans Pelicans)

While not so interesting as the King Cake Baby bobblehead the Pels are handing out January 29, I'd be stoked for an Anthony Davis bobblehead if I were a Pelicans fan especially if the team's 1-9 start is any indication of how the season is going to go down in the Big Easy. By the time we get to March 8, this 'Brow bobblehead may be the best reason to show up to the Smoothie King Center.

10 Dirk Nowitzki (Dallas Mavericks)
Dallas Mavericks bobblehead night number 12 (of 12!!). The Mavs saved the best for last. As a Mavs fan, I'd be ecstatic on this night as I added Dirk to the 11 other bobbles from the 2016-2017 season on my bobblehead shelf. This truly is an embarrassment of riches. I'm jealous.

11 Jabari Parker (Milwaukee Bucks)

The fourth and final bobblehead in Milwaukee this year is a letdown in terms of genius level because it's not also a toothbrush holder but an upgrade in terms of players because Parker's just better than Plumlee. And it's sort of been a long time coming for Parker even though it's only been three years. If Milwaukee's going to get good any time soon, Parker's likely a key piece of that puzzle.

12 Danny Granger (Indiana Pacers)
I saw the Pacers going one of two ways on their aughts bobblehead: Jermaine O'Neal or Danny Granger. Ultimately the Malice at the Palace was probably too much for the Pacers to bear to roll out a Jermaine O'Neal bobblehead for their golden anniversary. If the Wizards ever celebrate their past in bobblehead form, I assume Gilbert Arenas will lose out to Antawn Jamison for similar reasons.

24 Dwyane Wade (Chicago Bulls)

Jimmy Butler and Rajon Rondo, the other two Bulls bobble handouts this year, get distributed in back to back games in January. Bulls fans have to wait until late March to get their hands on returning hometown guy (and Marquette product) Wade. There's a ton of enthusiasm for Wade returning to Chicago for these next two years. No doubt he's a first ballot Hall of Famer. As a Bulls fan, I'd wonder how much he has left in the tank over a full NBA season while happily getting my paws on this gem.

April
4 Channing Frye (Cleveland Cavaliers) / Paul George (Indiana Pacers)
Frye is one of those guys who was just in the right place at the right time. After nine and a half seasons with New York (zero playoff appearances); Portland (one playoff appearance); Phoenix (one playoff appearance); and Orlando (zero playoff appearances), Frye got traded to the Cavaliers for Jared Cunningham (who?) and a second round pick. Cunningham never suited up for the Magic and is now in China; Frye is an NBA champion and has a bobblehead of himself.

Paul George is the eighth and final Pacers bobblehead this season. What a rush. Wish I was a Pacers fan for this reason and this reason alone. Although honestly if we are talking bobbleheads, I'd rather just be a Mavericks fan this year. There was no other choice here for the Pacers to celebrate the current decade.

5 Tracy McGrady (Houston Rockets)
The last currently announced bobblehead in the NBA this year is on April 4 with the fourth of four retired player bobbleheads in Houston. T-Mac spent five and a bit seasons in Houston before stints with the Knicks, Pistons and Hawks. It's amazing to me how I lose track of former All-Stars' teams after they fell from grace. I still struggle to remember Patrick Ewing played for the Seattle SuperSonics and that Gilbert Arenas and Allen Iverson played in Memphis. I couldn't have told you McGrady played in New York, Detroit or Atlanta. McGrady's best years were in Orlando, but he managed three All-Star appearances in Houston which ain't bad I guess.

This wraps the list for this year. Or at least my initial crack at it. There are 48 bobbleheads out there this season (49 if you count Mel Daniels and George McGinnis as two) which ain't too bad at all. This list is based on 17 of the 30 NBA teams publishing promotional giveaway lists for this year. The 17 are the teams who have bobbleheads listed above plus the 76ers, Hornets, Grizzlies, Jazz, Trail Blazers and Lakers, all of whom have decided to forego bobblehead handouts this year. Although it should be noted that Utah has three TBD dates on their schedule and the Charlotte Hornets are giving away Starting Line Up figurines. Not bobbleheads so not on this list.

There are also other bobbleheads out there to be had. The Denver Nuggets (as shown at the top of this post) are making a Dikembe Mutombo bobblehead available to fans purchasing a certain ticket package and the Washington Wizards have a really strange Bradley Beal bobblehead as part of their Kids' Club package. More on that when I get my hands on one of those. In the meantime, have at it NBA bobblehead collectors. Happy collecting.

I'm missing lists from the Celtics, Knicks, Raptors, Pistons, Magic, Heat, Hawks, Spurs, Timberwolves, Nuggets, Thunder and Kings. If any of those teams make their lists available anytime soon, I'll add theirs to this list.
